Phase I Site Assessments

Cathodic Protection Testing

Great Plains Environmental has performed numerous cathodic protection tests on underground storage tanks, piping, and above ground storage tank bottoms.

Cathodic protection testing is periodically required to test the integrity of the tank systems. The test determines if the installed cathodic protection system is functioning properly. Cathodic Protection systems prevent corrosion, which leads to leaking tank and piping systems.

According to EPA regulations, all cathodic protection systems must be tested within 6 months of installation and at least every three years thereafter. Owners must also maintain records of testing procedures and results to be in compliance.

Line Leak Detector Testing

Great Plains Environmental has performed numerous Mechanical Line Leak Detector (LLD) Tests. All mechanical LLDs must be tested on an annual basis. The test takes approximately ½ hour per leak detector. The test creates a false leak, which will trip the LLD into slow flow. If a LLD fails, we have the capabilities to replace the failed LLD.
